About

Triple Point Studios represents the balance and interdependence of mind, body and spirit.  As an athlete, Mike Garrett is an accomplished triathlete, NCAA All-American swimmer, and Category I cyclist.  Mike is also an engineer and scientist; when he's not painting, he spends his time on propulsion and nuclear fusion R&D.  He holds a B.A. in Physics from Wesleyan University, an M.S. in Applied Plasma Physics from M.I.T. and an M.S. in Aeronautics & Astronautics from M.I.T.  At Wesleyan, Mike was classically trained in oil painting by Tula Telfair, where he also earned a B.A. in Studio Art.

While much of Mike's work consists of 2D oil on canvas, he is also fascinated by 3D industrial artwork.  This work forms a hybrid space between aesthetic and utilitarian forms and between science / engineering and art.

"I'm probably 50% deficient in both halves of my brain.  However, I'm constantly pulled back and forth between science and art.  While these disciplines are generally assigned to opposite ends of an academic or cultural spectrum, there are far more similarities between science and art than most realize.  I embrace these similarities in my work."
