Science story:
Table 3 is a hybridization of science and art. The geometry is a form of suspension truss; the diagonal rods translate a central load into the legs. The two ellipsoidal reflector alignment boxes were originally designed as quasioptical beam focusing elements for a Gyroton. These optics were developed for a prototype of a microwave thermal space launch system (a system developed to launch spacecraft into Low Earth Orbit using beamed microwave energy).
